March 19th - Presentation by Jill Grinnell from Golden Girls Solutions
Starting the process of finding a safe and individually fitting senior living community based on care needs, finances, environment, location, and preferences can feel overwhelming - don’t do it alone! Jill Grinnell has over 30 years of experience working with seniors and their families. She started her career after graduating from Mt. Mary University with a degree in Business Communications and Marketing with an emphasis in Gerontology. Jill’s first job in the Senior Care industry was as a Marketing and Activities Director at residential care homes. From there she fell in love with the concept of having care, compassion, socialization and security under one roof for seniors that otherwise would be alone or in long-term care. From there she explored other opportunities and had a variety of roles through the years as Executive Director, Memory Care Director, Life Enrichment Specialist, and Regional Director of Sales and Marketing. What has always mattered most to her has been her connection with seniors and their families while making a difference in their lives. As a Certified Dementia Practitioner, her most recent venture was opening a Montessori-based Adult Day Center that grouped individuals based on their cognitive abilities and provided a secure environment throughout the day along with meaningful programming. Jill also is a support group facilitator for the Alzheimer’s Association, Mild Cognitive Impairment Groups, and Caregiver Support Groups. She is a current student of Leadership Sarasota Class of 2024. She is the proud mother of two boys, Zach (26) and Riley (19), and when she is not working, she is cheering on her son Riley at Special Olympics games or Challenger baseball.

February 27th Interview and Q & A with Dr Peter Tass
Dr. Peter Tass investigates and develops neuromodulation techniques for understanding and treating neurologic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, dysfunction following stroke and tinnitus. He creates invasive and non-invasive therapeutic procedures by means of comprehensive computational neuroscience studies and advanced data analysis techniques. The computational neuroscience studies guide experiments that use clinical electrophysiology measures, such as high density EEG recordings and MRI imaging, and various outcome measures. He has pioneered a neuromodulation approach based on thorough computational modelling that employs dynamic self-organization, plasticity and other neuromodulation principles to produce sustained effects after stimulation. To investigate stimulation effects and disease-related brain activity, he focuses on the development of stimulation methods that cause a sustained neural desynchronization by an unlearning of abnormal synaptic interactions. He also performs and contributes to pre-clinical and clinical research in related areas.

When Kanwar first came to try out an experimental treatment using vibrating gloves, his Parkinson's symptoms were so severe that he had trouble taking his own steps. He had a noticeable difference after just one four-hour session of wearing the gloves. In our interview we learned a great deal from him about how these gloves have had a dramatic effect on his life

What an excellent Support Group meeting we had with Dr. Daniel P. Stein. As we learned, for more than a quarter of a century Dr. Stein has used his medical training in neurology to assist patients in their journey to greater health and well-being. Her active lifestyle includes walking my dog, gardening, dancing, swimming, and working out at the gym. She and her husband Scott live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, where we enjoy a regular dose of sun, sand, and surf – good medicine for the heart, body, and mind.
